My research brings together information retrieval, machine learning, and human-centred computing to help people find and use information effectively.

Information retrieval & language models

Large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, search evaluation, and novelty and diversity in document retrieval.

Machine learning for health

Learning from genomic, gut microbiome, medical imaging, and health record data for precision diagnosis and chronic disease management.

Human-centred search

Multimodal interaction, user-oriented search, crowdsourcing, and the evaluation of search behaviour and effectiveness.

Research visit

  1. I visited the Intelligence Agents Multimedia Group, University of Southampton for collaboration on the application of multimedia search toolkit, ImageTerrier. I will be supervised by Dr. Jonathon Hare during my visit.

  2. I was a visiting student at the Centre for Digital Video Processing, Dublin City University. The visit was supported by EU K-Space project (Knowledge Space of Semantic inference for inference for automatic annotation and retrieval of multimedia content). I was supervised by Prof. Alan F. Smeaton and Dr. Hyowon Lee.
